You must have noticed how popular organic products have become these days. When anything is labeled as organic it simply means that no chemicals were used during the growth/cultivation of this product. The belief here is that organic products are more healthy and less harmful to our bodies. Hmmm .. if this is the case then why don’t we grow only organic products? The simplest reason is that the use of chemicals helps to manage large-scale cultivation. Whereas in the case of organic production, this is mostly manageable only on a much smaller scale. In a nutshell organic products are made from organic ingredients – fruits, vegetables etc. Lets move on to see how this affects you.

Now, how is all this relevant to your skin care? The question you should be asking and you probably have been is – how do I differentiate between all these various organic skin care products in the cosmetics aisle? If you have ever looked at the labels of these products, you will notice that a lot of names on the back are unpronouceable. This is because some products use organic ingredients in addition to some chemical ingredients. That is the caveat – ‘in addition to’. You have already seen this situation if you have ever shopped for juice before. It’s the same as those bottles of juice which do not indicate that they are “100% fruit juice”.

So, how do you read these labels? If you are going from top to bottom, then you will notice a decrease in the concentrations. Make sure that the ingredients all the way from the top to the bottom make sense to you. If they don’t quickly note them down and do some basic research on the web.

Now, this begs the question – should you buy these?

These skin care products are definitely beneficial for your skin. More than likely the side effects from these will be minimal. There are a variety of products, each with a totally different purpose – some exfoliate, others cleanse, condition, nourish, hydrate and moisturize the skin.

Most people who use these products say that their skin feels fresh and relaxed immediately after use. The added benefits is that these organic products have a nice smell. So, not only are you rejuvenating the skin, but you are also uplifting your spirit and of others around you. It doesn’t get better than this!

To understand organic skin care, you have to understand organic farming because all of the ingredients in organic skin care are organically produced. This means that each and every ingredient should be certified as organically grown, not just the majority of them.

It is a good idea to check companies that you are considering for your organic skin care products to make sure that they are selling certified products and that the products you purchase from them are certified.

There are companies out there which make false claims about being organic and those that sell some non organic products along with organic products. Through understanding organic farming, you will see that organic skin care is better for both you and the environment.

Basically, organic farming is a return to the way farming used to be done, utilizing a number of things to replenish soil nourishment including: crop rotation, composting, and cover crops. Climate hardy plants grown in well nourished soil have better insect and disease resistance than their non organic counterparts do.

Because of this resistance, the organic plants do not require fertilizers and pesticides in massive amounts. Even when help is needed, organic farmers protect their plants through a variety of ways that still do not utilize synthetic chemicals. Sadly, this does not mean that there are absolutely no pesticides in organic plants.

Because of the over use of pesticides, even our rain carries them, which means that organic plants are subjected to them through the rain.

Biodiversity is promoted by the organic farmers way of growing different crops and natural resource systems (like air and water) are protected because of the way that organic farmers store and compost the animal waste they use in replenishing soil nutrients.

The overall effect on the environment through organic farming can be seen through reduced greenhouse gases. On a local level, farmers see less water used, less soil erosion, improved fertility, safer groundwater, and more abundant wildlife.

Organic is all about the way that various agricultural products are grown (or raised) and processed. By farming organically, the health of the ecosystem is maintained. Toxins in fertilizers and pesticides are bypassed because these products are not used in organic farming.

The focus is on the environment: soil regeneration and water conservation being the two biggest issues and animal welfare playing a large part as well. During processing quality is retained because organic foods are not subjected to artificial ingredients, irradiation, or preservatives.

Aside from man made additives, pesticides, and fertilizers, organic food is also free of man made herbicides and GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Animals raised organically are not fed by products of other animals (rather, they eat organically grown foods) and they are free to roam and enjoy their existence (instead of being locked in cages).

In raising animals organically, a diet of certified organic food is used; this means that, in addition to the absence of the above mentioned synthetics, there are no hormones ingested by organically raised animals.

Prevention of disease is a by product of the animals healthy living, so antibiotics are also not passed on to us through ingestion. Through this well nourished, free to roam life, it has been found that animals raised for things like milk and eggs tend to live much longer than their non organic counterparts.

According to the United States National Organic Standards Board, Organic agriculture is an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.

For products to be certified organic, they must meet a set of strict standards within the industry. These standards are verified by a third party agency, sometimes the government. In order to be certified, both farms and processing plants must be checked and found to be in compliance with the standards that have been set. After initial certification, farms and facilities are still inspected regularly to verify that the organic standards are still being met.

Organic does not just refer to the actual plants and animals produced for human consumption. It applies to anything which is manufactured in such a way that it meets the certification standards.

This is why one moisturizer may be organic while another is not, even though both companies use the same ingredients. Organic farming has grown to the extent that you can find a huge variety of food (even processed foods), but it goes even further than food. You can buy organic clothing, organic bedding, linens, and other items.

Pregnancy is a beautiful yet challenging time in a woman’s life. For every joyful discovery there is a disappointing development, like skin outbreaks or the shedding of hair.

The modern mother-to-be is lucky however, as manufacturers have begun to acknowledge the special needs of the pregnant body. Indeed, today there are literally hundreds of products on the market that address some of the more common discomforts pregnant women face during their nine month long evolution.

Skincare is one area that manufactures often target, a wise move, since taking care of our body’s largest organ is one of the primary concerns of many women who are on the precipice of becoming a mother.

With so many options available, it can be a rather daunting task to locate what will work best for you. Just how does a pregnant lady locate the skincare products that are both safe and effective?

Think Organic

Once upon a time people thought of organic products as something vegetarians and neo-hippies purchased due to paranoid concerns about contaminants. Nowadays, we realize that the neo-hippies were on to something, as the FDA and several health watch organizations have begun to prove that health and beauty items, like lotions and creams, were chock full of toxic substances.

Indeed, a mainstream lotion can contain several carcinogenic chemicals that could potentially damage reproductive health. Using such substances when pregnant could end up being extremely dangerous to both mother and baby.

On the other hand, true organic health and beauty items are free of the things that can cause harm to you and your precious little one.

Below are a few products that a resourceful mother who is interested in organic skin care can investigate to get started on her beauty regimen.

• Stretch mark cream – every mother, whether she is having her first child or her fifth, worries about getting stretch marks. The good news is that manufacturers of organic lotions and creams understand this and have created belly butters and moisturizers filled with pure botanical ingredients that will help your skin glow.

• Body toning oil — pregnant women are also concerned about sagging skin after childbirth, but the use of toning oils can help prevent this from happening if used faithfully. Producers of organic products make all natural body toning oils with tried and true substances like avocado, pomegranate and jojoba oils which boost collagen production and help the skin retain it elasticity.

• Body cleansing – purchasing organic shampoos, body washes and soaps are another great way to keep your skin baby smooth and free of harsh drying chemicals.

To find organic products you can visit a holistic food store in your neighborhood or look online for organic distributors. Always check the ingredients list as well, since some companies can legally use very little chemical free substances in their formulas and still get an organic rating. To be sure, look for the “certified organic” label. This often means it is 100 percent organic and 100 percent all natural.

You and your baby deserve the best start possible when it comes to the mother child relationship. Taking good care of yourself during your pregnancy with rest and proper skin care is one step in the right direction.

What is the true definition of organic skin care? We if many of the leading cosmetics companies are to be believed, it means that as long as you include a smidgen of honey you can pretty much throw in anything else that you want. It’s those mystery ingredients in supposedly organic skin care products that you have to watch out for.

I refer to them as “mystery” ingredients not because the company is hiding anything really since the contents are posted right on the label. It’s because you would have to be a med school professor to know off the top of your head what half of those ingredients are. Most of these ingredients don’t pertain to organic skin care in any way.

That’s the problem with a great many organic skin care products being marketed today. The active ingredients contained in these creams are only there in small quantities, and even the in low doses. The rest of the ingredients are chemical preservatives and engineered fragrances.

Fragrances Could Be Carcinogenic

Methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl parabens are widely use in organic skin care creams as preservatives. Studies have suggested that these chemicals may cause cancer. They have also been found to interfere with the body’s endocrine system, as well as cause skin rashes and allergic reactions.

The fragrances added to most organic skin care products are made up of any number of chemical, many of which are known to be carcinogenic. A lot of the non cancer-causing chemicals used are recognized toxins, which can do a variety of damage including affecting your central nervous system.

Why would these poisons even be allowed in organic skin care creams anyway? The chemicals utilized to make up the fragrances absolutely should not be in any cosmetics products. Developing an artificial aroma for a cream serves no purpose other than to make that cream seem more appealing to you.

A Company Who Does It Right – They Care

There is a company based in New Zealand that simply refuses to use parabens preservatives in their organic skin care products. They don’t use fragrances either for that matter. Their belief is that the health of their customers is more important saving a few pennies through the inclusion of cheap, unnecessary, chemical additives.

This company holds the philosophy that organic skin care should mean exactly that, organic. They believe that when you open a tube of skin cream, the only thing that you should be able to smell is the pure, natural vegetable oils inside. I believe that they are absolutely right.

Real Organic Ingredients

Organic skin care products should include ingredients such as avocado oil, grape seed oil, passion fruit extract, and Japanese brown sea kelp. That certainly sounds a lot better than what you’re finding in many of these other popular products. It also sounds as if this product would be a lot better for you.

It is actually refreshing to know that there are still some companies left that care more about giving their customers a far superior product than they are about how large a profit they will turn. When it comes to organic skin care do yourself a favor, and turn to the people of New Zealand. I did and I can truthfully say their products work.
